Just the other day, I came across this very interesting short paper which argues RegenoShred (SLU-PP-332) may have indirect kidney protective effects:

From the paper itself:

"This novel agent aims at a cluster of proteins in the body recognized as ERRs (estrogen-related receptors), that activate several metabolic pathways in the body, including the cardiac and brain tissues. The drug can potentially treat diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, heart failure, kidney disease, and even cognitive dysfunction"

"Weight loss following administration of this agent will be accompanied by improvement of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetic which imply a kidney protective efficacy by this compound."

Unfortunately, that was all the paper wrote.

No insight into any real mechanism, or even a rat study where RegenoShred was tested for its effects on the kidneys.

So I had to do a little bit of digging.

And with my good fortune, I found another paper matching what I was looking for:

Here is what researchers managed to find:

"A gradual decline in renal function occurs even in healthy aging individuals. In addition to aging, per se, concurrent metabolic syndrome and hypertension, which are common in the aging population, can induce mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation, which collectively contribute to age-related kidney dysfunction and disease."

"A pan-ERR agonist, SLU-PP-332, was used to treat 21–month–old mice for 8 weeks... Remarkably, similar to CR [calorie restriction], an 8-week treatment with a pan-ERR agonist reversed the age-related increases in albuminuria, podocyte loss, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammatory cytokines, via the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase–STING and STAT3 signaling pathways."

"These studies identified ERRs as CR mimetics and as important modulators of age-related mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation. These findings highlight novel druggable pathways that can be further evaluated to prevent progression of age-related kidney disease."

Why does this matter?

It is entirely possible the health benefits of SLU-PP-332 are due to a mechanism of action that cannot be attributed to weight loss alone.

This is the big debate currently happening with the GLP-1 peptides in the medical world:

"Are GLP-1s having all these other health benefits simply due to the weight loss?

Or is there something unique with the GLP-1 induced biological cascades INDEPENDENT OF WEIGHT LOSS that (a) contributes further to the health benefits or (b) provides benefits unattainable with weight loss?"

We won't know for sure until multiple millions of dollars are thrown into all the big-picture studies that would give us a definitive answer.

But unlike the GLP-1s, which is all mainstream media can talk about, SLU-PP-332 won't see the same rise to pharmaceutical glory.

It was made by university researchers just a little less than 2 years ago, and no company has attempted to buy it out.

And this is WITH the swarm of media hype it generated when the first big study came out.

Until myself and a few daring biohackers got tipped off by it, the compound was almost as good as dead.

Could our growing success with the compound revive interest?

Probably, but don't bet your bottom dollar on it.

RegenoShred is going to be another one of those esoteric agents only the privileged few will ever get to hear about or use.
